Profile

The department of Zoology of Nalbari College was started in the year 1945 and has completed 74 years of its existence. Science faculty was introduced in the year 1958 at I.Sc level. The Department of Zoology of Nalbari College was started in the Pre-university class in the year 1966 with Sri Anil kr. Srivastava as Head of the Dept. at the initiative of prominent educationalist and Principal Late T. N Goswami. There were 20 students in the first batch. Zoology was introduced in B.Sc class in the year 1967. The “Honours Course” was introduced in the year 1978. This course late renamed as “Major Course” by the Gauhati University when the three year Degree course was introduced in the year 10+2+3 pattern. The Academic session 2003-2004, the Gauhati University has introduced a new TDC syllabus in the pattern 1+1+1 as recommended by UGC. Presently there are four permanent faculties in the department. They maintain cordial relationship with the students. The student never hesitates to approach the teacher whenever required. There is a Departmental Library in addition to the main college library. The Departmental library is enriched with lots of books covering the syllabus. Adequate laboratoty facilities including various types of instruments are also available in the department. The year 2016 dated 24th and 25th Dec, marked the most important year in the history of Nalbari College as well as in the Dept. of Zoology as because this year celebrated the 50 Glorious years of Zoology Deparment.
